Jessica Szeto is a writer, media artist, filmmaker and interdisciplinary artist born, raised, and practising in Mohkinstsis (Calgary). Her practice explores the intersections between memory, the diaspora, technology and human emotion. Utilizing experimental techniques that often blend analog and digital approaches, her work spans a wide variety of mediums, from interactive installations to zine publications. Her approach is to harness creativity and experimentation to learn new techniques that help tell stories be told in new and innovative ways. Her goal is to create works and stories that guide audiences to consider how their own memories and emotions guide their relationships with past, present, and future versions of ourselves. Jessica has a BSc Honours in Computer Science from the University of Calgary. Utilizing her technical knowledge, her practice aims to use digital tools to evoke human emotions.

Her latest exhibit was exhibited at The New Gallery in 2025, “see you there // meet me here: echoes of eau claire”, which utilized photographic works and installations to create a community mourning space for a demolished mall. She is continuing her work regarding the mall in her next film project, an stop-motion animated film exploring her personal memories of the mall, “Memories of a Dying Mall.” This project is currently supported through the Chris J Melyanchuk Scholarship and Production Residency at Quickdraw Animation Society. Previously, she has also had works exhibited in TRUCK Contemporary Art, The Lougheed House, The Chinese Cultural Centre, and Heritage Park.
